What is Hormone Yoga?
It is no secret that Yoga can help us stay healthy and fit. But often the ancient philosophy from India is mistaken as just a sport as we mostly see beautiful poses on Instagram. The truth is – there is much more to Yoga than making great shapes.
Yoga is a philosophy on how to live a strong, healthy and fulfilled life. It is a powerful tool that can connect your body and soul. Moreover, practicing Yoga on a regular basis can help our body functions to work better in general.
It is true – Yoga can have a real impact on our lives. And not just that, there are also specific kinds of Yoga that can be used to treat health issues. You might have heard of Ashtanga, Hatha or Vinyasa Flow, but have you also heard of Hormone Yoga?
What started as a way to help women through menopause, quickly became a natural and holistic approach to reactivating the feminine hormone production in general.
Women that started practicing techniques to help the feminine energies flow report less negative period symptoms. You might feel more balanced and more in your flow than you ever have been.
With this article we’d like to share some background information.
The story behind Hormone Yoga
Hormone Yoga was originally meant to be for a specific target group and was invented by Dinah Rodrigues in 1992. She developed the form of Yoga Therapy to prepare women preventively for menopause and thus prevent symptoms of this time. She calls her original program ‘Hormone Yogatherapy’, which she is still teaching until this day.
You have heard that getting into the here and now and enjoying every moment can be a powerful tool. People from ancient times already figured this out and implemented breathing techniques as their daily routine. Delivered through the Yoga philosophy, those techniques are today known as Pranayama.
Based on the physiology of feminine hormones, Dinah has put together a combination of helpful Yoga poses (Asana) and breathing techniques (Pranayama). She got her inspiration from her long yoga practice and her own experience. The exercise series reactivates the glands to produce hormones. The technique is based on Hatha and Kundalini Yoga and sometimes might feel strange at first, but thousands of women can’t be wrong.
If you practice Hormone Yoga, you can expect dynamic movements and powerful breathing, that might need a little courage. At the same time relaxation and being in the moment are as important. Even studies have proven that stress can lower our estrogen level.
Hormone Yoga isn’t a magic wand to cure diseases, but it can certainly be a powerful tool to get feminine hormones flowing.
Why did Hormone Yoga get so famous?
Her technique quickly developed to something bigger than she imagined, when international yoga teachers realized the benefits it has in general on the feminine system – not just in menopause. Hormone Yoga can help to balance your feminine hormones, which can help with many issues during your menstrual cycle. Studies have even proven that Hormone Yoga can help with Diabetes, Insomnia and even Hypothyroidism.
Even very young women reported less period pain and menstrual cramps after the had practiced Hormone Yoga on a regular basis. Menstrual disorders like PMS are mainly caused through hormonal imbalances. A regular practice can help to reactivate and strengthen the hormonal system.
Most importantly, can Hormone Yoga help to reduce and prevent stress. If we do see Yoga as the life philosophy it is, we can only benefit from it.
